Umbrellas [one-shot]

Title: Umbrellas
Pairing: Kyumin or Kyuhyun/reader (if you want it to be)
Summary: it had begun to rain, and you've forgotten your umbrella
A/N: I know for a fact that ‘Park’ isn’t Kyu’s last name, but please just continue reading to see why I made it ‘Park’. If you want this to be Kyuhyun/reader, disregard the ‘Park’ and just think that it’s ‘Cho’, and stop reading when the first page break comes up. ----- like that.

~Sometimes there are moments that you wish with all your heart you could forget~

You’re walking as fast as you could because it’s raining slightly and you forgot your umbrella at home for the first time in two weeks. You curse the universe, for surely it was against you and it loved to see you suffer, and the universe retaliates by sending a car careening your way and it runs past a huge puddle in the sidewalk.

You only have time to gasp in surprise before the puddle water gets you and you’re drenched to the bone.

~But there are also moments that will always be imprinted in your mind, no matter how hard you try to forget~

You stand frozen in shock at your drenched state, Your house is two bus rides away and your school is just around the corner.

The universe really does hate you.

You hear a car door open and you look up to see a man stepping out of the car that did it all and you clench your fist and prepare to deliver the longest tirade in the history of your life, but then the man turns around and looks you in the eye and your breath hitches.

He’s perfect.

~There are moments that seem so brief even when they’re composed of hours~

He drives you home in his high-class sports car with you shivering in the backseat as you stare at the back of his head as if you were in a trance.

“Is this it?” his deep husky voice rumbles from the front and he pulls to a stop in front of your house and turns around, spearing you with his smoldering chocolate-brown eyes.

You gulp and you try to scramble for your voice but you fail completely.

You nod weakly instead.

He smiles slightly and he climbs out of the car gracefully despite his long limbs, and you move towards the door to get out but it opens before you get there and his smiling face appears in the opening and your breathing stops.

He offers you his hand.

~And there are those that last an eternity when they’re not nearly half as long~

He leaves you there on your doorstep with his jacket draped on your shoulders and his smile in your mind.

“I’ll be back for the jacket.” he said before he left and as you shakily unlock your door, step into your house and almost collapse unto the floor due to your shaky knees, you think: “why can’t tomorrow come any sooner?”

You lift the collar of his jacket to your nose and you sniff it lightly.

You discover that he smells slightly of coffee and chocolate.

~There are times when dreams are reality and reality is composed of dreams~

When he returns the next day he has an umbrella in his hands and he presents it to you like he other wise would do with a bouquet of flowers.

“I thought you’d need it.” he explained when you looked up at him with confusion in your eyes and you flushed into a deep red shade, snatched the umbrella from his arms and smacked him on the head with it.

“Owww!” eh whined, rubbing the top of his head and looking at you with disarmingly big, watery eyes. “What was that for?!”

“For being cheesy enough to make my heart beat fast.” you said in the silence of your mind but then you think better of it , flushed a deeper shade of red, thrust his jacket into his arms, spun on your heel and ran back into your house, slamming the door behind you.

“Aishi…” you think once you’ve collapsed heaving on the door you’ve locked, internally berating you and your cursed pride. Now he’d probably never want to see you ever again. And you don’t even know his name!

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

You would’ve continued your self-pity session for hours on end had the umbrella he’d given you not caught your eye, or more specifically, the thing hanging from the umbrella handle. A card?

You lift it up and read it with your heart fluttering slightly.

“Park Kyuhyun, huh?” you mumble softly to yourself. You say it again, liking the way it rolls on your tongue.

You giggle softly at how right it feels to say his name. You close your eyes and hug the umbrella tightly to yourself, smiling unconsciously.

~But there are also times when what you thought was a dream veers off into a nightmare.~

It’s a week later when you’re walking down the very same path where you first met that you see him again. Your heart jumps into you’re throat and you’re not quite sure what to do. Do you approach him and say “Hi!” or don’t you? You did hit him with an umbrella the last time that you met and you’re not quite sure if he got angry because of that or not…

He’s smiling serenely with a white teddy bear in his arms and you melt slightly inside as you watch him coo over the plush toy. It’s the most adorable thing, you think, and you stand a bit straighter and plaster a smile on your face and you think: ‘to hell with it!’ and move forward to approach him.

You’re halfway there when a pretty woman bursts out from the coffee shop behind him and she hugs him from behind.

“Kyuhyun-oppa!” she squeals.

And he turns around to smile down at her and he thrusts the teddy bear into her arms.

Your heart clenches.

The teddy bear suddenly isn’t that cute anymore.

~You see, reality just isn’t composed of prince charmings, loyal steeds and happily-ever-afters,~

You run all the way back home.

Or you try to.

You collapse on the side of the street instead because home is just too far away and you’re sitting next to a fire hydrant that reeks strongly of dog urine and you scrunch your nose and feel a teeny bit grateful that it stinks so bad that all your mental reserves get directed to the thoughts: “Ewww,. Ewww. Ewww.” instead of: “Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.”

You hardly realize it when it begins to rain. And even when you do, you decide that you just don’t care and you don’t make a move to leave.

Soon you’re drenched to the bone and the shivers are running up and down your spine.

You sneeze.

Why didn’t you bring your umbrella again?

You rub your fists against your eyes when you realize that not all the moisture on your face came from the sky and you curse yourself silently.

Why get this affected? It’s not like you shared anything with him, apart from one short ride in the backseat of his car. It’s not like you meant anything to each other.

Of course he had a girlfriend, how could he not have one with his dashing good looks and his boyish charm.

What did you expect?

The rain stops falling and you stand up and decide to just go home and eff it all. You wouldn’t be able to pay attention in class anyway. But you’ve only taken a few steps away when you realize that it still is raining and you look back in confusion to see what it was that had stopped the rain from hitting you.

You find him standing there with an umbrella held above his head.

~Reality is nowhere near being a fairy tale because…~

“Why aren’t you using the umbrella I gave you?”

You look at your feet and blush, you have no idea how to answer his question.

“I…” you stutter out, but then you stop and avert your eyes as you remember that scene you witnessed just a few minutes ago, You decide that you have absolutely no reason to answer to him.

“Come on.” He says, pulling you under his umbrella and leading you towards his car. “You might get sick.”

His chocolate and coffee scent intoxicates your senses.

“I don’t want to get in your car!” you protest as he opens the car door to the seat beside the drivers. He stops his movements and lifts an eyebrow at you.

“It-I-I might get your car wet…” you flush under his heated glare.

You discover that you find it hard to complete your sentences in his presence.

“I don’t care about the freaking car.” he tells you nonchalantly, “Just get in before you catch a cold.”

You choose this perfect moment to sneeze.

He curses under his breath.

“Get in.”

You have no choice but to oblige. So you get into the car and sniffle piteously as he closes the car door and walks around to get in the car at the other side.

“Aish.” he curses when he notices that you’re shivering and he removes his thick leather jacket and he drapes it around your shoulders. You turn your head to tell him that you don’t need it but then a flash of white appears at the corner of your eye and you turn to look and are surprised to find the great white teddy bear sitting at the back of his car.

He looks perplexed at your expression and he follows the direction of your gaze to the inanimate stuffed animal.

“Oh.” he says when he sees what you’re looking at.

He turns a bright shade of red.

~Because reality is much much better.~

You look at him in confusion.

“Ummm,-I-” he stutters and you’re even more confused, he used to be so cool and collected. What happened?

“Actually…” he says, face still red. He reaches over his seat and takes the bear into his arms and then he looks up at you unsurely.

“I was supposed to, you know…give this to you…” he tells you and then he looks back down at the toy and he strokes the fur gently.

You can hardly believe your ears.

“But my sister said it was too cheesy.” he trails off and looks back up at you, You flush and deep inside it feels as if your heart is singing and doing handstands and cartwheels.

So it was his sister that he was with?

Why didn’t you think of that?

“Never mind.” he mutters, and then he holds out the plushie to you with an embarrassed smile on his face. “Since you’ve already seen it-here…please take it.”

“T-thank you.” you say, and then you take the stuffed toy and bury your nose in its fur.

“I like you.”

“I like you!”

Did the bear just talk?

You look up at Kyuhyun with wide eyes and he tries to avoid your gaze. He turns red. You squeeze the bear again to make sure it was the one that spoke.

“I like you.”

It takes approximately eight-quarters of a second for you to understand what’s happening, and when you do your face breaks out into one wide uncontrollable smile.

“How can you say that?” you ask the man who’s determinedly looking out the window. “You don’t even know my name.”

“You don’t need to know a flowers name to know you like it.” he says, still looking out the window. “You can enjoy its fragrance and admire its beauty for so long and yet still not know what its name is.” he finally looks at you and you melt under his gaze, “That’s how I know I like you.”

Somehow, it feels different when it’s him saying it instead of an inanimate object. You feel all warm inside.

“I like you too.” you whisper softly into the fur of the teddy bear he gave you after a few seconds of uncomfortable silence, and this time, it’s you who’s awkwardly looking out the car window , forcing yourself to be interested at the rain streaks on the tinted glass.

You nearly jump out of your bones when a warm hand is suddenly holding your own, your fingers meshing together in the bears white fur. You turn to look at him and your heart jumps into your throat when you find his face only a few inches from yours.

“Really?” he asks breathily and you feel his warm breath wash over your face. Mint and another distinct scent of masculinity.

You find yourself unable to tear your eyes away from his.

You dip your head into a slight nod.

~And reality couldn’t get any better than this…~

The next thing you know, the world has disappeared.

There’s no rain pounding against the car windows. No subtle rumbling of the engine. No pedestrians running in the streets as they desperately huddled under their limited supply of umbrellas.

It’s just you and him and the teddy bear in your arms.

He’s smiling softly down at you and he’s never looked more handsome than he does now.

He’s looking at your lips.

“May I?” he asks softly, and his hand gently strokes your cheeks.

How can you say no?

You close your eyes when his face comes so close that you get cross-eyed just from looking at him. You feel his breath ghost over your own.

His soft warm lips brush against yours.

Time stands still.

~Reality doesn’t offer you any real happily-ever-afters, but for now, this’ll do.~

The kiss deepens and it’s a mesh of heat and warmth and the ba

“Aish!” Sungmin slams his pen on the table and rubs his eyes in agitation. “What is it Ryeowook? I’m writing a story here!”

Ryeowook pops his head into the room and grins sheepishly at his irritated hyung.

“Umma wants you to buy a few things for his.” he says and he waves a shopping list and a few won in Sungmin's direction.

“Why can’t you do it?” Sungmin demanded, refusing to take the objects in the younger mans outstretched hand.

“Well…” Ryeowook rubbed the back of his head and flashes his hyung a shy smile. “I-sort of…have a d-date today.”

"With that punk rocker guy?”

“Yeah. Please Sungmin-sshi. I’ll make it up to you. I just think that this guy really really really is the one for me.”

Sungmin, unfortunately, is moved by his dongsaeng's pleading.

“Fine. Fine.” he says, grabbing the bills and list from Ryeowook's hands and sighing. he shoos the smaller man away.

When Ryeowook is gone, he opens his notebook again and crosses out the last line of his story.

The kiss deepens and it’s a mesh of heat and warmth and the ba

“There.” he smiles, satisfied. “I think this ending will do. Innocent. Sweet.” he closes the notebook and heads out of the house. Too much in a hurry to think about anything else.

He doesn’t realize that he’s forgotten his umbrella at home till much much later when it’s begun to rain and a handsome stranger is suddenly standing in front of his, holding an umbrella above both of their heads.

He looks up and the stranger is smiling softly down at him, mischief dancing in his eyes.

Sungmin forgets to breathe.

“Hi, my name’s Cho Kyuhyun. What’s yours?”

OMIGOSH. SO AWESOME. AND SWEET. So it was Sungmin who was writing the story. No wonder you wrote Park Kyuhyun. Hahaha. So cute, Sungmin ends up meeting a real Kyuhyun. On a rainy day too! Its like Sungmin can write out his own future.

Cute. Really cute. :3

Thanks :3,

Minmin isn't actually writing his future, coz my friend suggested something like Mins writing coming to life and something like that, and she told me to write a sequel but i think it's kinda cute, just leaving it like this.

what do you think? '~'

Hmmm... Maybe... a Kyumin fic with like... A chanced meeting between a poor orphan and a rich kid... But there's a difference. Like even though one of them's rich but he isn't happy, while on the contary, the one who's poor leads a cheerful life and he influnces the rich kid's views on life???

I don't know~~~~~

You can just ignore me if you think that it's too cliched... My brain is full of freaking cliches... :(
