Chapter 3

A/N: Oh! And since I always seem to forget, I just want to tell you guys that you should all be thankful to Kisung because she’s the one who told me to write all of this. Well really, this started with just the half of what the prologue had and then I sent it to Kisung and said:

“How’d you like my drabble?”

And she was like:

“Drabble?! How can you end it with ‘Shush, handsome one. This won’t take long?!’ you’re killing me! Write me some more.” (okay maybe she didn’t say it like that, but it had the main gist of what she meant)

And so I wrote and wrote and she talked to me while I wrote giving me even more ideas and now you’ve got this.

So, Umi friend (yes, that’s another name of hers, we’re weird like that), this is for you!! (geez why am I getting all cheesy like this, it’s not like you’re the one who’s going to post this in the first place because me no knows how to lj-cut, ahahahahah)

Bah, ignore this, so, on with the story!!!

---------A/N: This scene until the page break is now officially an NG/blooper/cut, because I don’t like it anymore, but I’m keeping it here for some reason.)

The mystery of the missing frying pan from last nights scuffle was solved the next night, when Onew's head suddenly popped up from the bushes under the living room window and he walked into the house, leaves and twigs still stuck in his hair, shirt covered in dirt, a big bump on his forehead and a frying pan in his hand.

“What happened to you?!” Zhou Mi demanded, immediately checking the younger man all over for injuries.

“Flying Frying Pans, Hyung.” Onew grumbled, throwing the offending item in the sink, and then eyeing Zhou Mi angrily. “Apparently, Frying pans occasionally drop from the skies in Korea nowadays.”

Zhou Mi flushed.

(okay, now the REAL story can start) ( I don’t even know why I tried including such a crack scene like that in an Angst fic, it’s so NOT good, ahahah, but it’s still funny)
Oh my lets celebrate! On print preview this is the 21st page. ^^ how awesome is that?) (oh, and BTW, this frying pan scene really did happen, I’m just not including it anymore, ahaha)
Oh and yeah.

Three cheers for lamp!Kibum!!!

I will personally never look at a lamp the same way ever again. ^^

“I’m sorry! I’m really really sorry!”

Kibum sighed into the receiver . Ever since Kyuhyun's first ever strike of bloodthirst -and not to mention the chase after, which Kibum will never ever forget-, the younger man hadn’t stopped apologizing to him, even when he had repeatedly said that it was alright. Kibum hadn’t been harmed after all. Though the same couldn’t be said for the lamp he’d used as a weapon(the light bulb was busted and the shade was cracked), but that didn’t matter anyway. They could always buy another lamp. But Kyuhyun just refused to listen.

“I already told you, it’s alright!” Kibum grumbled as he trudged down the path to school. “Just forget it ever happened.”

“B-but, Hyung.”

Kibum groaned. Kyuhyun never used honorifics, and when he did, you just knew that he had it bad.

“I’m going to school now. So please, don’t call anymore.”

Kibum then snapped the phone shut, stuffed his it deep into his bag, making sure it was buried deep under his sea of crumpled papers and then heaved sighed with relief. The guy hadn’t given him a break, calling him the entire Sunday and always just saying the same words, “I’m sorry, Mianhe.”, and for the first time ever, Kibum was quite glad to be going to school.

He hadn’t even gone five meters when his phone started vibrating again. Kibum groaned. He fished the phone out from his bag, flipped it open and glared at the screen. Naturally, it was a text from Kyuhyun, but it wasn’t another one of those apologies of his.

“Is Sungmin there?”

Kibum looked up from the text and cast his eyes around. No, Sungmin was nowhere near the-wait a minute, is that Sungmin?! Kibum gawked as he watched a badass motorcycle careen toward the schools gates, roaring as it went. The driver was wearing a black helmet that covered his entire head, but the laughter that came from behind the helmet told Kibum that the driver was a boy. The second passenger, who turned out to really be Sungmin, was clinging unto the drivers waist for dear life with his eyes squeezed shut.

“Slow down! Slow down!” Sungmin cried as his clutch on the driver visibly tightened. The driver obliged and went on to skid to a stop directly in front of the school gates. Sungmin hopped of immediately, and Kibum was glad to see that he didn’t seem harmed, just really really ruffled.

“I am never riding that with you ever again!”

“Awww, but Minnie. Didn’t you think it was fun?”

The driver pulled the helmet off and Kibum got to see a full view of his roguishly grinning face. Kibum froze. The feminine features, the teasing voice, and those sharp eyes could only belong to one person. Kim Ryeowook.

This was not good.

Kibum spun around quickly, he didn’t want Ryeowook to see his face even though technically, he wasn‘t the one who would be in danger if he was seen. He could already feel his heart beating erratically in panic. How the hell did Kim Ryeowook get in town? And since when?! Damn it, he had to warn Onew.

As the playful banter between Sungmin and Ryeowook continued behind him, Kibum began walking away, punching in Onew's cell number as he went. He pushed the call button and pressed the phone against his ear. It took three rings before the other man picked up.

“Onew, we’ve got a problem.” Kibum hissed into the phone, eyes darting around to make sure that nobody was listening in.

“What is it?”

“Ryeowook’s in town.”

“Ryeowook?! You mean, the Kim Ryeowook?!?” Kibum could practically hear the fear in Onew's voice.

“The very same.” he said.

“That’s not good.” Onew mused.

“That’s what I thought. Do you think-” Kibum began, but a loud authoritive shout cut him off.

“Kim Kibum!”

Kibum winced. He’d know that voice anywhere.

“I’m sorry. I gotta go. Bye.” He hurriedly rambled into the phone and then dumped it in his bag. He turned around in dread, and sure enough, Park Jungsu was there.

“Where do you think you’re going?” his teacher asked, eyebrows raised. “School is in that direction.” he said, pointing behind him. “Are you going to try to skip out again?”

“No sir.” Kibum murmured, head bent down.

“Good. Now go. The bell will ring any moment now.”

“Yes sir.” he said, and then he ran towards the school. Ryeowook and Sungmin were still talking to each other by the gate, and Ryeowook had enveloped Sungmin into a tight hug. Kibum averted his eyes as he passed by them. Their interaction really bothered Kibum. Why were they so close? How did they even know each other? Was Ryeowook the real reason why Sungmin didn’t attend school last week?

Kibum didn’t know the answer to any of his questions, but he did know one thing.

Kyuhyun won’t be making that last phone call.

Onew hissed in pain as he retracted his wings into his back. It got less painful every time he did it but the pain never really went away. It just stayed there, as hot as two red pokers pressed against his shoulder blades as his wings shifted, stabbed, twisted and his entire body convulsed and shook as his spine sucked the bones of his wings back in.

“How you manage to take all that pain, I will never know.” Zhou Mi commented from somewhere behind him.

Onew pulled himself to his feet, panting, he shot Zhou Mi an annoyed glare. “You‘re the one who‘s supposed to be doing this you know, checking in with Kibum. But noooo, you have to order your dongsaengs around.”

“Last time I checked you were very willing to go instead of me.” Zhou Mi quipped.

“That’s because you threatened to put me on an animal blood diet!” Onew squawked.

“And I will if you don’t get your ass moving now!”

Onew hmphed, he turned on his heel and began walking away from Zhou Mi, his nose in the air. He had wanted to make a dramatic walk out from the older man, but he hadn’t retracted his wings in so long and his sense of balance was so off that he immediately fell flat on his face, limbs splayed out in different directions.

Behind him Zhou Mi had collapsed on the ground, laughing his head off. Onew pushed off the ground with his hands and scowled at his Hyung.

“Shut up!” he grumbled, “You’d fall too if you tried walking without your wings once.”

“I already tried, Onew. And no, I didn‘t fall.” Zhou Mi said, giggling. “You’re still the only vampire I know who still trips even with his advanced reflexes.”

Onew's scowl deepened, “Tch. At least Taemin understands me.”

“Are you sure you want to do it like this?” Zhou Mi inquired, truly curious.

“Are you kidding?! I go through the entire painful retracting thing and then when its good and done, that’s when you ask me if I’m really going to do it.” Onew scoffed. “Really, Hyung. Why waste the effort”

Onews scowl disappeared, only to be replaced by a concerned expression, which was even more worrying than the scowl had been. “I have to go to Kibum. He called about Ryeowook, remember? I have to find out exactly what happened and if it’s us he’s after.”

Zhou Mi bit his lip at the mention of Ryeowook's name and he seemed genuinely concerned, “Why don’t you just wait for him to return?” Zhou Mi suggested.

Onew scowled again, annoyed that Zhou Mi was only giving him options now. “But he can’t come here! Not till Kyuhyun gets his thirst under control. Did you already forget what happened the other night? Kibum almost died!” he exclaimed.

“What if Donghae sees you?” Zhou Mi challenged, eyes glinting.

His face turned blank, his fringe covering his eyes. “He won’t.” he said simply, voice devoid of emotion. It always hurt to talk about his brother. Especially since Kibum would get to see him almost everyday but he couldn’t and he doubted that he ever would.

“You better make sure of that.” Zhou Mi’s tone changed, like it always did in serious situations where he had to assume his role of the oldest in the group, the only pureblood vampire among them while they were all just turned creations, all except for Taemin.

“I’ll be extra careful.” Onew declared, and then he ran out off the clearing.

But running wasn’t the brightest thing to do when you’d just had your center of balance shifted after so long, and he hadn’t taken ten steps into the forest before he toppled over again and he fell painfully into some bushes.

“Aish.” Onew cursed.

Behind him, Zhou Mi began to laugh.

“I thought you said you were going to be careful?”

Kyuhyun paced, ignoring how the carpet below him started to heat up as he walked back and forth on top of it with the speed he’d newly acquired. He wanted to call Sungmin, and he wanted to call Sungmin now. But he knew Sungmin was still in classes, and he also knew that one last call to Sungmin wouldn’t appease him. He had to see Sungmin for himself. But how could he when the very thought of blood sent his senses on haywire and he lost his control over right and wrong. What if he saw Sungmin and attacked him? Kyuhyun didn’t want to risk it.

“Will you please stop pacing, that carpet is new you know.” Zhou Mi reprimanded from the door frame.

Kyuhyun ignored him, he still hadn’t forgiven the other man for the bottle feeding incident. How dare did this man treat him like a baby? The thought still enraged him. He continued to pace, pondering his options. He still didn’t have wings, so he could still sneak into town without being recognized as a vampire. Sunlight wasn‘t a problem yet either since he still wasn‘t vampiric enough to burn once touched by it, maybe in a week or so, but not now. The real problem was his bloodlust. How was he going to get rid of it?

“Kui Xian!” Zhou Mi whined. “The carpet is beginning to smoke!”

“Aish!” grumbled Kyuhyun. He threw himself on the bed and stayed there, with his face buried in the pillow. What was he going to do? His wings would probably start growing soon, and when that happened, he wouldn’t be able to see Sungmin at all. He had to act now.

“Kui Xian! Why are you ignoring me Kui Xian! Hey!”

Zhou Mi had come over and he began prodding Kyuhyun lightly. Kyuhyun groaned into his pillow. Turned over and snuggled deep under the covers, determined to not pay any attention to the man currently hovering above him.

“Fine then.” the older man huffed. “I just came here to tell you that you can’t call your precious mortal anyway.”

Zhou Mi made to leave, but Kyuhyun's hand shot up and grabbed him by the wrist. His eyes narrowed and his incisors were lengthening again because of his rage. He only squeezed out one word: “What?!”

“Oh. So you can hear me!” Zhou Mi exclaimed, utterly delighted.

Kyuhyun only glared. “What did you say?!”

“That you couldn’t call Sungmin anymore?”

“And why the hell not?!” Kyuhyun erupted, eyes flashing, his grip on Zhou Mis wrist tightened without him even knowing. “First you tell me I can’t go to see him and now I can’t even make that one last call?! Why?!”

“It’s for your own protection, Kui Xian, believe me!” Zhou Mi tried to assure him, Kyuhyun could practically smell the nervousness and fear from the other vampire. Newborns were initially stronger than the average vampire when they started acquiring their enhanced abilities because their boosts of power were still uncontrolled and wild. Kibum had told him this and he knew without a doubt that Zhou Mi knew this too.

Kyuhyun felt like heady with rage and disbelief, he balled his hands into fists, forgetting that he still had Zhou Mi’s hand in a type grip. And then there was a crack and a sudden cry of pain. The next minute, Zhou Mi was against the door wall, cradling his broken wrist to his chest as he shot Kyuhyun angry glares. It was the first time that Kyuhyun had seen him angry. First time that Kyuhyun saw the side of Zhou Mi that had attacked him one night in an alley way. It only made him angrier.

“What was that for?! We’re only trying to protect you!!” Zhou Mi cried in anger.

“You’re the reason why this all even began!” Kyuhyun snarled, standing up and showing Zhou Mi into the wall. Zhou Mi whimpered when his wrist was jostled about, and oddly, Kyuhyun found that this quite satisfied him. “If you didn’t attack me, didn’t kill me, I wouldn’t be having these problems!!”

“It’s your own fault for wandering around at night!”” Zhou Mi argued, unwilling to back down from the fight even with his broken wrist. His pride was at stake.

Kyuhyun snarled, how dare Zhou Mi even pin the blame on him. He wasn’t the one who had chased the other one down a dark alleyway.

“Fuck this!” Kyuhyun growled, turning away from Zhou Mi and grabbing his phone. “ I’m sick of all of you dictating what I have to do!” he stomped out of the room.

“Hey where are you going!” Zhou Mi crowed after him, but Kyuhyun ignored him, he sped down the stairs, through the hallways and out the front door. Surprisingly, Zhou Mi wasn’t following him, and that was a good sign. Maybe Zhou Mi already thought hum a lost case and they’ll all just leave him alone now. Kyuhyun didn’t look back as he ran away from the place with only his phone in hand and a bag of blood he‘d managed to nick from the refrigerator. As far as he was concerned, he was never going back.

“What?!” Onew's voice blared through the receiver, “He left?! Aren’t you even going to try to follow him?” Zhou Mi winced at Onew's tone.

“No. Why should I?” Zhou Mi replied haughtily into the phone as he bandaged his right wrist.

“Because Ryeowook’s in town and we’re the only vampires in this area? Because he might get thirsty and kill someone else?! Aren’t any of those good reasons?!’ Onew demanded.

“But he broke my wrist!’ Zhou Mi protested, pouting.

“Damn it, Zhou Mi. Now I have to go find Kyuhyun too.” Onew grumbled.

“Go do that then.” Zhou Mi snapped the phone close, pissed. Why were youngsters nowadays so rude? Back in his day, if you were older, everyone respected you. Ah, where have the good times gone? Zhou Mi regarded his broken wrist, eyes dark, that Kui Xian was the rudest of them all. Sigh.

Zhou Mi may act childish, but he was still a vampire, a centuries old one, and he believed that because of that he deserved some respect. Onew gave him that, to some degree. He was cheeky yes, and he complained a lot, but once Zhou Mi gave an order, Onew followed, and that was that.

Kui Xian on the other hand. Zhou Mi stopped to picture Kui Xians face in his mind. The high cheekbones, flashing eyes and tousled hair. The man was so rude and stubborn, but somehow, Zhou Mi liked it.

It was a breath of fresh air.

Sungmin only had time to widen his eyes comically in surprise before he was tackled to the ground by one overenthusiastic Eunhyuk.

“Where have you been?!” Eunhyuk wailed, as Sungmin tried to gasp for air while Donghae laughed at him. Eunhyuk pulled away, holding Sungmin at arms length and scrutinized his face as if checking if it was really him. Sungmin averted his eyes uncomfortably as he tried to fight off images of a man with hungry eyes and rough hands, it‘s just Eunhyuk, he told himself. “You’ve been gone for four days! Do you know how worried everybody was?!”

Sungmin had the decency to blush. He didn’t realize that people would be looking for him.

“I’m sorry.” he apologized, widening his eyes and pouting, looking to all the world like a puppy, “I promise that I won‘t do it again.” . Eunhyuk tried to remain angry at his Hyung, but he just couldn’t, especially when
the bottom lip started wobbling and the eyes became shiny with unshed tears.

“I was just trying to look for Kyu, I’m sorry, Hyuk, I really am.” Sungmin said.

“Okay, fine. I forgive you. But don’t disappear on us like that ever again!” Eunhyuk gave in, groaning. He grabbed Sungmin’s arm and Sungmin felt a split-second of panic before he calmed his heart down and went along as Eunhyuk began dragging him through the hallways as Donghae trailed behind them.

Just Eunhyuk. Just Hyukkie.

“You are so dead when Eeteuk-shi sees you. He actually launched a search party you know.” Donghae said, looking happy about it.

“Why didn’t he do that for Kyu?” Sungmin asked, both afraid and miffed.

“You’re more like his son than Kyu ever was. But you do know that he loves both of you. Kyu was just more likely to skip school than you were, that’s why he wasn’t so worried.” Eunhyuk explained.

And then they were already beside the classroom, and Eunhyuk dragged him in, never letting go off his arms as if afraid that he’d disappear once the other was no longer touching him. Sungmin found himself being directed and plopped down into his chair by a very firm yet gentle Eunhyuk. Sungmin could feel his face heating up again, the classroom was already halfway filled, and everybody inside was staring at them.

“Ya, who was that guy you were with just a while ago?” Eunhyuk demanded with his eyes narrowed, he didn’t seem to notice the fact that everybody was staring at them. Unfortunately, Sungmin did, and he could just imagine what everybody else was thinking with Eunhyuk leaning over his desk like that. He blushed even redder.

Flashes of a man stealing his first kiss in a dressing room in a rundown bar.

Sungmin began to sweat.

“I-it was just Ryeowook, Hyukkie. “ he stuttered even as he tried to discretely push Eunhyuk away without the other noticing, the close contact was too much.. “He saved me the other day. He said he’s going to help me look for Kyu!”

“Oh.” and thankfully, Eunhyuk got the hint of moved over to Donghae’s side of the room as the teacher got in and began to discuss about covalence bonds.

Sungmin began to take notes diligently, his mind clearer now that he knew that someone else was out there looking for Kyuhyun, someone who he actually trusted. Ryeowook had been very kind to him, he’d brought him home and cooked for him after rescuing him from that jerk who’d tried to-wait no, don’t think about that.

His hand trembled and he tried to stop the trembling by gripping his pencil tightly but it didn’t work and his trembling got even worse. He still felt so dirty after what that monster did to him. He had only Ryeowook to thank for the fact that it hadn’t gotten any further than kissing. Sungmin didn’t even want to think about what would have happened if Ryeowook hadn’t arrived. He wondered how Ryeowook even thought he was ready for school.

“Sungmin-ah, are you feeling alright?”

Sungmin glanced up to see that everyone in class was looking at him in concern. It was the teacher who had spoken, Eeteuk-shi, and he seemed to be the most concerned one of them all. Sungmin bit his lip and he flushed red at all the attention he was getting, but the shaking still wouldn’t stop.

“I think someone should accompany him to the clinic. Will somebody….?

“I’ll do it.”

Sungmin turned around in surprise. Kibum had stood up and was already beside him, offering his arm for Sungmin to hold on to as he grinned reassuringly at the teacher.

He couldn’t understand why Kibum would do this for him, he’d once been very close to Donghae but they’d drifted apart a few years back, and he only ever talked to Kyuhyun because they were seatmates but that was only as far as their connections would go, but Sungmin didn’t have time to question Kibum’s decision as everybody in class was staring at them, so he accepted the help and together, they walked out of the classroom.

Sungmin could feel his face heat up more as other people that were out in the halls saw them walking together with him leaning on Kibum’s arm, they must’ve looked really intimate.

Neither one said a word to the other as they headed for the clinic, as Sungmin was too shy to even say anything at all to the guy he barely knew, and Kibum was just plain quiet unless you prompted him, and Sungmin wasn’t prompting.

In a short span of time they were already at the clinic and Kibum was already helping him to sit on one of beds there.

“No, I don’t need help.” Sungmin muttered, waving away Kibum's offered hand as he climbed unto the bed, ‘I’m not that weak.”

“I don’t know about that.” Kibum said, but he kept his hands to himself anyway, “You were practically vibrating when we were walking here. What’s wrong?”

“N-nothing.” Sungmin stuttered, looking everywhere but at the other boys eyes.

Kibum sighed realizing that he won‘t get anything else from the other boy, “Fine then, I guess I’ll just go back to class now…

And he turned and walked away. Sungmin looked up to watch him leave, but something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention and he could practically feel his heart stop beating. Through the clinic windows, perched on the branches of the tree as if it was the most natural thing to do, was Sungmin's almost-rapist, and he was smirking right at him.
